In the Catholic faith, Easter is so massive and wonderful - it cannot be contained in a day. It must last at least a week. And what a week it has been! I hope to add one more song... and call it a year. See ya next year. So, please - say a prayer for me, that it is a song that bring God great glory, and makes Jesus smile - who has been my constant companion, even when I did not know He was there. I hope Mary and Joseph like too, and feel like they wanna dance. I already told you, I am a ridiculous and silly man. Now you know it to be true.

First Reading: Dt 30:15-20
Moses said to the people:
“Today I have set before you
life and prosperity, death and doom.
If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God,
which I enjoin on you today,
loving him, and walking in his ways,
and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees,
you will live and grow numerous,
and the LORD, your God,
will bless you in the land you are entering to occupy.
If, however, you turn away your hearts and will not listen,
but are led astray and adore and serve other gods,
I tell you now that you will certainly perish;
you will not have a long life
on the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and occupy.
I call heaven and earth today to witness against you:
I have set before you life and death,
the blessing and the curse.
Choose life, then,
that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God,
heeding his voice, and holding fast to him.
For that will mean life for you,
a long life for you to live on the land that the LORD swore
he would give to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Then he said to all,
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”
The reflections for February 18th offered by Phil Miles on the video link above is a very powerful two minute clip. Well at least it was for me. You see, I was guilty of the shortcoming shared by Phil. He describes a period in his life where he was very active in community service, but at the expense of his family. Lent is a great time for getting your priorities straight.

Lenten Journey - year Two
She'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes... yep, it is that time of year again, and at present, it is virtually upon us - time for Lent. In case you missed last year's winding road through many states and states of spiritual discovery, start at the beginning, which last year began on February 17, 2009 - with a William Yeats' poem, a prayer for my daughter. It remains a favorite poem, and I must say thank you. My daughters have grown up so much in the last year - and yes, in ways that are very pleasing to a father who loves them. And so, thanks to God who hears all of our prayers and answers them if they are in our best interest, which is another way of saying - if it is His will. Yes indeed - I have had many prayers that went unanswered, but given the passage of time, it seems these unanswered prayers were probably in my best interest... i just didn't know it or understand it at the time.
